Why “Close Enough” Isn’t Good Enough
Here’s the thing about power matching: a lot of people try to save a bit by using “near-match” lamps. But in a machine like the SBF 12, a 5% difference in wattage or voltage is actually a big deal. It changes the heat flux. If the wavelength doesn’t hit that PET resin at the exact right frequency, you get hot spots and cold spots. The Nitty-Gritty Details
We use high-purity quartz glass because these lamps go through a lot of thermal shock with rapid cycling. They need to be tough. Then there’s the connection. We stick to the standard industrial connectors—usually R7s or SK15—to make sure the fit is tight. If a connection is loose, you get resistance. That leads to voltage drops and, eventually, the terminals burn out. We also obsess over the footprint. The lamp has to sit exactly where the reflectors expect it to be, or you’re just wasting energy.
A Quick Reality Check from the Shop Floor
Now, matching the power solves the fluctuation, but it does put more pressure on your cooling system. High-wattage IR lamps throw off a massive amount of heat into the oven housing. If your blower motors are struggling or your ventilation is clogged with dust, the lamp is going to run hotter than it should. That kills the lifespan of the bulb, no matter how well it’s made.
