Getting Your KOSME KSB 6000 Heat Just Right
Dealing with cold spots in your KHS or KOSME blow molding machines is a headache. You see it immediately in the bottles—uneven stretching, weird wall thickness, and just overall inconsistency. We’ve spent a lot of time tinkering with the infrared emission profiles of our replacement lamps for the KSB 6000 specifically to kill off those cold spots for good. The Power Balance Here’s the thing about the KSB 6000: it’s a balancing act. You need enough power to hit your target temps, but if you overdo it, you’ll scorch the PET resin. We use high-wattage quartz halogen tech to make sure the heat actually sinks into the preform wall quickly. But a quick warning—be obsessive about your specs. Your voltage and wattage have to be a perfect match for your oven’s transformer. If you try to push too much current through a low-voltage tube, it’ll be dead in a few days. Not a great way to spend a Tuesday. Built for the Grind We went with heavy-wall quartz glass because these things take a beating from rapid thermal cycling. They’re tough. Plus, we use standard industrial connectors (think R7s or SK15), so they just slide right in. No messy rewiring, no custom brackets. We also added a specific coating to the quartz. It shifts the spectrum so the heat actually goes into the plastic, rather than just baking your machine frame. Real-World Advice On the shop floor, these lamps give you a much tighter thermal field than the cheap, generic stuff. Your oven zones will actually feel consistent. But wait—there’s a catch. When you crank up the heat density, your cooling blowers have to work harder. If you’re upgrading to higher-output tubes, take a look at your exhaust fans. If that oven canopy isn’t venting the extra heat, you’re risking warped reflectors. And please, double-check your alignment. Seriously. Even a tiny 2mm shift in the lamp seat can leave a streak of under-heated plastic in your bottles. Once you’ve got them wired up, calibrate your pyrometers and keep a close eye on the preform skin temperature for the first 100 cycles. Just to be safe.
