
Getting Your SACMI Lamps to Actually Keep Up
When you’re running high-speed PET blowing, you aren’t working with seconds. You’re working with milliseconds. If your lamps can’t hit that perfect temperature gradient fast enough, you’re going to see it in the bottles. Uneven walls, “pearling”—basically, a lot of wasted plastic and a headache for you. We’ve all been there. That’s exactly why we redesigned our replacement lamps. We wanted to kill that startup lag. The secret is in the heat. Most lamps have too much thermal inertia—they take too long to wake up. We fixed this by using a high-wattage density filament inside a precision-bore quartz envelope. By tightening the gap between the filament and the tube wall, the infrared radiation hits the preform almost instantly. It’s a sharper heat spike. And because it’s faster, you can crank up the machine’s cadence without worrying about the plastic losing its elasticity. Built to take a beating Then there’s the glass. Jumping from room temperature to 600°C in a few seconds is a brutal cycle. Standard tubes usually just give up and crack. Our lamps use a heavy-wall quartz that can handle that daily stress without snapping. We also made sure the connectors are true drop-in replacements. No fiddling around. If your pins are loose, you get arcing, and arcing burns out the ends of your lamps. We made sure the fit is tight so that doesn’t happen. A quick heads-up on the setup Since these lamps push more heat into the preform in a shorter window, you’ll need to keep an eye on your cooling. If your cooling blowers aren’t humming along perfectly, you might find the bottle necks getting a bit too hot. They’ll plug right into your existing SACMI controllers, but do yourself a favor: watch that preform surface temperature during the first hour of the run. Just a quick check to make sure you aren’t scorching the plastic.
