Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’re running high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. The real bottleneck isn’t the machine itself—it’s the thermal profile of the preform. To actually hit the speeds your Husky HyPET is capable of, you can’t just throw raw wattage at the problem. If you do, you’ll just scorch the outside of the plastic while the inside stays cold. You need heat that actually sinks in.
How we get the heat to penetrate
Here’s the thing: standard quartz tubes waste a lot of energy. We do things differently. We tweak the emission spectrum and use specific halogen fills to make sure the PET material actually absorbs the heat. It’s all about that voltage-to-wattage ratio. By cranking up the heat density, we make sure the center of the preform hits that glass transition temperature without frying the outer skin. It just works better.
The gear under the hood
We built these tubes to be simple drop-in replacements for Husky setups. No fuss. We use high-purity quartz glass because these things take a beating under high thermal stress, and we don’t want them burning out on you. Even the connectors—the R7s and Sk15 stuff—are built to tight tolerances. That means no annoying arcing at the pins. We’re obsessed with power density. By packing high wattage into a shorter length, you get a punch of heat that cuts your preheating time way down.
The honest trade-offs
Now, let’s be real: high-penetration lamps run hot. Really hot. When you’re pushing that much energy into the preform, your lamp housing feels the strain. If you’re running at max capacity, your oven’s forced-air cooling has to be spot on. If your fans are acting up or your blow-off air is clogged, you’re going to see those quartz tubes degrade faster because of hot spots. We build these to handle the load, but the life of the lamp depends on how you treat the machine. One last tip? Keep your reflectors clean. A little bit of dust on the mirror kills the efficiency of even the most expensive lamp. It’s a small detail, but it makes a huge difference.
