Stop Replacing Your SIG Blomax Lamps Every Other Week
If you’re running a SIG Blomax line and feel like you’re burning through heater lamps way too fast, you aren’t alone. It’s frustrating. You’re usually fighting a losing battle against structural fatigue or thermal shock. The problem is that standard lamps just aren’t built for the brutal on-off cycling needed to heat PET preforms. They snap. They burn out. They just give up. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we built a reinforced version of the SBO6 lamp specifically to stop the bleeding. Getting the heat right Here’s the thing about the SBO6 footprint: it’s a balancing act. You need enough heat density to hit that glass transition temperature, but you can’t cook the base of the preform. We make sure our lamps match the original voltage and wattage exactly. They’re simple drop-in replacements. Why does that matter? Because if the wattage is off, you get “cold spots” in the oven. Then you’re staring at bottles with uneven walls, and nobody wants to deal with that. What actually makes them tougher? We use high-purity quartz glass. It handles the expansion and contraction of heating and cooling without cracking. Inside, we’ve tightened the tolerances on the tungsten filament. It stays centered, so it doesn’t sag when things get white-hot. It basically means the lamp can take a beating during high-speed production without folding. Plus, we use standard connectors. You can swap them out fast, which means less time staring at a dead machine and more time actually producing. A few things to keep in mind Now, a tougher tube doesn’t mean you can ignore the oven. High-wattage lamps put a lot of stress on your cooling fans. If your ventilation is clogged, the ambient temperature inside the oven climbs. Once that happens, even the toughest lamp will burn out early. And here is a pro tip:check your reflectors every 500 hours. If the reflectors are dirty, the lamp has to work twice as hard to get the PET to the right temperature. That extra heat kills the lamp. A quick clean can literally double the life of your bulbs.
