
Fixing Heat Spots in KHS Blowing Machines
Ever deal with bottles coming out warped or with weirdly thin walls? It’s a headache. Usually, it comes down to uneven heating in your KHS machines. It happens a lot when lamps get old, or worse, when someone swaps in a cheap replacement that leaves “cold spots” in the oven. Here’s the thing: getting that heat uniform isn’t about just cranking up the wattage. It’s all about how that infrared light actually hits the plastic.
The nitty-gritty of heat
We designed our quartz halogen lamps to be simple drop-in replacements. No fuss. We obsess over the small stuff, like making sure the filament is perfectly centered. If it’s off by even a millimeter, the heat hits the preform unevenly, and you’re back to square one with deformed bottles. We also use high-purity fused quartz. Why? Because it lets short-wave IR pass through better, meaning the heat sinks deeper into the PET material, much faster.
The trade-offs you should know about
These tubes are built for high-voltage, high-wattage setups. By keeping the voltage high, we can keep the heat dense across the whole tube without drawing too much current. This is a lifesaver for your wiring looms because it keeps them from overheating. But there is a catch. These lamps put out a massive amount of heat. It’s great for cutting down your cycle times, but it puts a lot of pressure on your cooling blowers. If your cooling system is acting up or just can’t keep up, these high-output lamps might actually overheat your machine frame. Just something to keep an eye on.
Getting them running
You won’t need to rewire your sockets or modify anything. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so they just click right in. The real win, though, is the lifespan. We’ve tweaked the internal halogen cycle so these lamps last as long as—or even longer than—the OEM parts. The best part? The heat stays stable. You won’t find your thermal footprint drifting as the lamp ages, which means you can stop constantly tweaking your heating profiles in the middle of a production run. It just works.
