If you’ve ever tried to disinfect a kitchen cabinet, you know the struggle. To actually kill the bad stuff, you need a massive spike in temperature, and you need it now. Why Ruby Quartz?
Here is the thing about ruby quartz: it isn’t like the clear stuff you usually see. Because of the ruby doping, the glass handles emissivity differently. Instead of wasting time heating up all the air inside the cabinet, these tubes blast out high-intensity infrared radiation. It cuts right through to the surface. You get a concentrated hit of heat that targets bacteria and viruses almost instantly.
Speed, Power, and the Catch
To get that “second-level” response—basically, heat that happens in a blink—we use tubes with high wattage relative to their length. When the power density is that high, the filament reaches its operating temperature nearly instantly. If you pair these with a high-frequency switching circuit, you can pulse the heat to keep the temperature exactly where it needs to be. But there’s a catch. Going from room temperature to blistering heat in a heartbeat puts a lot of stress on the quartz seals. If your mounting brackets are too tight and don’t leave room for the metal to expand, the tubes will just snap. You’ve got to give them some breathing room.
Putting it into Practice
The best part? These are pretty much drop-in replacements for standard sterilization arrays. By swapping out old NiCr wires for ruby quartz, your pre-heat cycle drops from minutes to seconds.
