
Getting More Out of Your Old SMF Blow Molders
You don’t actually have to scrap your entire oven just to get a bit more speed out of an old blow molding machine. Most of the time, the bottleneck is just the preheating. Here’s the thing: as those IR bulbs get old, they stop hitting the PET resin as effectively. You end up running the machine longer just to get the preforms up to temperature, and that’s where your cycle time goes to die. The Heat Factor If you swap in a high-wattage, short-wave IR bulb, the whole thermal profile of the oven shifts. We build these radiators to handle higher voltage loads—more than your standard utility power—so they can punch more energy into the resin in a fraction of the time. Switching to a 2500W tube gives you a much tighter heat density. That means you can finally crank up the conveyor speed. Just a heads-up, though: more wattage means you need to make sure your cooling fans are actually doing their job. If the airflow is weak, you’re going to scorch your preforms. No Need to Rewire Everything Nobody wants to spend a weekend rewiring a control cabinet. That’s why we use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements. You just pull out the burnt-out tube, snap the new one in, and you’re back in business. We also use heavy-wall quartz glass. It’s tough. It keeps the bulbs from bowing when things get hot. Plus, the halogen fill keeps the filament clean, so the heat pushes outward where it belongs instead of getting trapped inside the glass. What This Actually Does for Your Floor When the IR transmission is better, the preform hits the blowing point faster. You spend less time waiting around in the oven. The result? Your cycle time per bottle drops. You’ll also notice the heat is spread more evenly, which means you won’t have those annoying thin spots in your bottle walls. It’s a cheap, easy way to squeeze a lot more bottles per hour out of a machine you already own.
