
On the blow molding floor, the heating tunnel is where the pressure cooks. When a heater lamp throws uneven heat, the preform gets a temperature swing—and you end up with PET bottles that stretch inconsistently, flash crystallize, or carry weak necks. You either back the line speed down to chase stability, or you eat scrap.
What matters, technically
The Krones Contiform Pro heater lamp is a short-wave infrared (IR) emitter, built on a quartz envelope with a halogen filament, and it’s engineered to match the machine’s heating profile. We spec it for stable, fast response so the preform heats quickly and repeats the same way, cycle after cycle. The output sits in the near-infrared band, so the energy drives straight into the PET wall without scorching the surface. It’s dimensioned to the Contiform Pro heater module—right arc length, standard R7s connector interface. The electrical ratings line up with the blow molder’s heater power bus and control strategy, so the lamp drops in without rewiring or retuning the heating zones.
Why it holds up on the line
In stretch blow molding, that preform has to land inside a tight temperature window before it hits the blow station. The Contiform Pro lamp brings controllable heat, fast, so you can hold the same cycle with less temperature drift. The payoff: fewer thickness swings, cleaner bottle geometry, and less scrap from overheat or underheat. Because the thermal response is quick, the heating tunnel doesn’t lag when line speed moves. In practice, you see more consistent bottle weight, better top load strength, and fewer rejects tied to heating nonconformities.
The details that bite you
Installation is straightforward, but alignment is everything. If the lamp sits off-center in the reflector, you get a hot spot and a cold zone—and you’ll see it in the bottle wall. Make sure the lamp seats flush in the holder, and that the reflector is clean and not damaged. Short-wave IR is efficient, but it needs clean cooling airflow. Keep the lamp and terminal area free of dust and oil mist; otherwise the quartz runs hotter and the life shortens. The lamp will run bright—that’s normal—but it does mean proper shielding and operator PPE are required around the heating section.
